ALBANY, NY – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced its Basketball All-Academic teams, with the Peacocks women's basketball team placing six student-athletes on the team, and the men's basketball team placing two student-athletes on the team.
From the women's team; Sajanna Bethea (Levittown, PA/Pennsbury), Talah Hughes (Beacon, NY/ Beacon), Sammy Lochner (Abington, PA/ Abington), Samantha Meier (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan), Brianna Tarabocchia (Woodcliff Lake, NJ/ Northern Valley Demarest HS), and Alyssa Velles (Franklin, CT/Norwich Free Academy) were honored. From the men's squad; Nick Griffin (Rockville, MD/George Washington/Col. Zadok Magruder) and Quinn Taylor (Amarillo, TX/Tascosa) were honored.
A total of 75 student-athletes comprised the 2018 MAAC Women's Basketball All-Academic Team. Quinnipiac University put 11 student-athletes on the team, which was the highest in the league. Fairfield University was second with nine making the grade and Niagara University was third with eight student-athletes. Marist College and Monmouth University each added seven to the team, while Canisius College, Manhattan College, Saint Peter's University, and Siena College all placed six members each. Rider University had five and Iona College had four student-athletes make the team.
A total of 13 men's basketball student-athletes made up the 2018 MAAC Men's Basketball All-Academic Team. Quinnipiac University led all schools with four student-athletes. Following Quinnipiac were Manhattan College, Monmouth University, and Saint Peter's University each adding two student-athletes to the team. Canisius College, Iona College, and Marist College all had one student-athlete honored.
To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
