JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Monmouth downed Saint Peter's 13-8 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday.

Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) paced the Peacocks (14-27) with a 4-for-5 performance, three runs scored and an RBI. Nicholas Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) added two hits, three RBIs and a run scored while Nick Cardamone (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) posted two hits and two runs scored in the loss.

Monmouth jumped out to an early lead and held on after a late Saint Peter's charge to earn the victory in a preview of a conference series next year when the Hawks join the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Monmouth got on the scoreboard with a run in the first thanks to a Ferret RBI double to center field. The Hawks added a run in the second on Perry's RBI single to center for a 4-0 lead.

A Joe Bamford sacrifice fly and a Sweeney run-scoring single gave Monmouth a 4-0 margin in the third.

In the bottom of the frame, the Peacocks answered with two runs of their own to make it a two-run game. Cardamone singled to right and came around to score of Kristoffersen's triple to center before James Smith (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) plated Kristoffersen with the second run on a sacrifice fly.

The Hawks responded right back with a three-run fourth sparked by a two-run single by Perry while another run touched home on an error to give Monmouth a 7-2 advantage.

The West Long Branch program added two more runs in the sixth on a Sweeney two-run homer that hugged the foul poll for a seven-run lead.

Saint Peter's came back with a run in the bottom of the inning. Chris Grimes (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy) singled and came around to score of Vincent Maietta's (Franklin Square, N.J./St. Mary's) line-drive single to center to trim the margin to 9-3.

In the next inning, the Peacocks nearly made the furious comeback after scoring four times to make it a two-run game. Cardamone and Kristoffersen were the catalyst for the rally again after Cardamone led off the inning with a walk and Kristoffersen doubled to left field. After Smith walked, Henriquez plated Cardamone and Kristtoffersen on a single through the left side. Robert Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) plated Smith with a single up the middle before William Rawson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) brought Henriquez home on a sacrifice fly. After Saint Peter's trimmed the margin to 9-7 with one out, a pair of strikeouts ended the threat.

The Hawks scored a run in the eighth thanks to a Peacocks' error, but Saint Peter's scored a run to return the two-run deficit. Kristoffsen stayed hot with his fourth hit of the afternoon and touched home on when Henriquez hit a ball behind first base that Monmouth's first and second basemen converged and the ball fell safely for a base hit to cut the margin to 10-8.

The Hawks sealed the win with three runs in the ninth.

Matt Mancini (Toms River, N.J./Toms River) took the loss for Saint Peter's.

The Peacocks return to action on Saturday at home to start a three-game conference series with Marist. First pitch is 12 p.m.
