Saint Peter’s Baseball Announces 2017 Slate

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Saint Peter's baseball head coach Danny Ramirez has announced the 2017 slate for his squad in his first season. The 44-game schedule is highlighted by 20 home games, including the season opener against LIU Brooklyn on March 7 at Jaroschak Field.

"I feel optimistic about our upcoming 2017 season and schedule," noted Ramirez. "Out of the gate we play quality teams such as LIU Brooklyn, University at Louisiana Lafayette, Pitt University, and St Johns. Playing against teams of that caliber prior to our MAAC opener should prepare us for conference play and give us a good indication where the emphasis needs to be." 

Following the season opener, the Peacocks head on the road for the next five games, beginning with a trip to Louisiana Lafayette for a three-game series from March 10-12. The unit then heads back northeast to face Pitt on March 14 and 15.

The Peacocks return home for a double-header against Albany on March 21. The baseball team then begins the front end of a home-home series with St. John's and Fordham. First, traveling across the Hudson for a road game at St. John's on March 22. The squad then has six days rest before returning to the diamond to host Fordham on March 28, and then play at Lehigh on March 29 in the first of a two game series between the teams to close out the month.

Saint Peter's opens up the month of April in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, facing Niagara in a three-game series. The teams meet in a double-header on April 1, and then play the final game of the series on April 2.

The team returns to non-conference action, closing out the home-home series with St. John's and Fordham; first playing host to St. John's on April 4, and then heading to the Bronx, NY to face Fordham on April 5.

The Peacocks return home for a brief four games, led off by a three-game series with MAAC hOURglass rival Rider from April 8-9, followed by an April 11th date with Wagner.

Following the Wagner contest, the squad will be away from Jaroschak for a 10-game stretch beginning with Fairfield from April 15-16. The Peacocks then take on NJIT on the 18th followed by the first game of a home-home series with FDU on the 19th. The team dives back into MAAC play for three games against Quinnipiac from April 22-23, before games at Hofstra (April 25) and at Seton Hall (April 26).

The next 11 games for the Peacocks will be spent at Jaroschak Field. Saint Peter's welcomes MAAC foe Marist to Jersey City for a three-game series from April 29-30 concluding the month.

The unit starts May playing the backend of the home-home FDU and Lehigh series on May 2 and 3 to close out non-conference play. On May 6-7, the team faces Siena in a season series, and then gets a week rest before tangling with Iona in a three game series on May 13-14. The Peacocks conclude the regular season on the road at Manhattan from May 18-20 playing in three contests.

The top six teams in the league will advance to the MAAC Championship on May 23-28 at the Sal Maglie Stadium in Niagara Falls, NY.

"Our team has been working diligently since I arrived at Saint Peter's in September; they are a gritty bunch that get along well and feel that they have something to prove this year," added Ramirez. "We have a good number of seniors and returning starters that work very hard, understand the game and are eager to leave a mark in their final year of baseball at Saint Peters University. Our freshman class is quite interesting in itself, bringing with them raw ability and tons of positive energy. Once the freshman get comfortable on the collegiate level, they will undoubtedly contribute to the success of Peacocks Baseball for years to come. Everyone is on board and very excited about Peacocks Baseball in 2017 and the possibilities that come with it."
