HAMDEN, CT – The Saint Peter's University baseball team dropped its weekend series to Quinnipiac University over the weekend, falling on Saturday evening, 13-1, and Sunday afternoon, 5-1 and 7-0. On Saturday afternoon, the Stags won both games of a doubleheader over the Peacocks, winning 3-2 and 6-4. The Peacocks MAAC record drops to 0-12 and the teams overall record drops to 0-23 on the season.
The Peacocks were led by Paul Schifilliti (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East), James Spadaccini (Butler, NJ/Butler), and Angel Perez (Jersey City, NJ/Marist HS) who each logged two hits in the game. Perez had the best hitting percentage, going 2-for-3 and scored the lone Peacock run in the top of the sixth inning on an error by the Bobcat's third baseman, propelling Perez across home plate for the unearned run.
Peacock starting pitcher, Willie Krajnik (Lyndhurst, NJ/Saint Mary) (0-5) pitched 6.0 innings for Saint Peter's in the losing effort. Krajnik struck out two batters but surrendered 11 hits, resulting in eight runs (seven unearned).
Quinnipiac scored 13 runs on 15 hits and three Peacock errors in the game. The Bobcats were led by Ryan Nelson and Liam Scafariello who both accounted for five runs. Nelson went 3-for-6 with a homer, two RBIs, and three runs scored, while Scafariello hit a homerun and added three RBIs, and two runs scored.
Jake Regina (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford (Gloucester CC)) (0-3) tossed all six innings for the Peacocks in the 5-1 defeat. Regina struck out three batters and allowed nine hits to the 30 batters faced.
The contest remained scoreless heading into the top of the third inning when the Peacocks score the game's opening run. Schifilliti singled down the right field line to earn the RBI as Cole Robbins (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) advanced home, giving the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats scored runs over the next four innings starting in the bottom of the third with one run in the inning serving as the equalizer to tie the game at 1-1. The Bobcats added one run again in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and one more run in the sixth to extend their lead over the Peacocks to 5-1.
Schifilliti was the only Peacock to record multiple hits, going 2-for-3 in game two, with the Peacocks only RBI. Quinnipiac was led in the second game by Mike Palladino who hit 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.
Seven different Peacocks recorded hits in the game giving the team a total of eight hits, led by Anthony Ramos' (North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) 2-for-4 game. The Bobcats shutout the Peacocks as they failed to score a run, leaving eight runners stranded in the game and making three errors in the field.
Saint Peter's starting lefty, Michael Ammerman (Howell, NJ/Howell (Ocean Community College)) (0-3) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three earned runs and five of the seven. Ammerman sat down four hitters with strikeouts and gave up seven hits.
Saint Peter's will continue the 15-day road trip on Tuesday, April 25 at Hofstra with a 3:30pm first pitch and will conclude the road trip on Wednesday, April 26 at New Jersey foe, Seton Hall beginning at 4:00pm.
