Baseball Falls to Siena in Doubleheader on Sunday

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's University baseball team fell to Siena College on Sunday, dropping both games of the doubleheader to the Saints at Joseph J. Jaroschak Field on Sunday evening. The Peacocks was defeated in game one, 17-2, and was defeated, 12-4, in game two.

Game 1

The Peacocks fell behind 10-0 by the fourth inning of the game, giving up four runs in the second inning and two runs in each of the other innings.

The Peacocks got in the scoring column in the bottom of the fourth inning when James Spadaccini (Butler, NJ/Butler) scored from an RBI double from Jesse Matos (Bayonne, NJ/Marist). Brian Turton (Jefferson, NJ/Jefferson Township) followed with an RBI that came by way of a single to left field that sent Matos home for the Peacocks second run of the inning.

The Saints added three runs in the sixth and another four in the eighth to extend the lead over the Peacocks to 17-2.

Game 2

In game two, Jake Regina (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford (Gloucester CC)) took the mound for the Peacocks. Regina put together a 5.0 inning day that included three runs and three strikeouts.

 

With the Peacocks still trailing 3-0, the Saints rallied in the top of the sixth inning with nine runs, off of six hits and two Peacock errors that extended the Peacock deficit to 12-0.

 

The Peacocks responded in the bottom of the sixth inning with a four-run rally of their own that began with an RBI single to left field by Mike Ionta (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) that scored Alex Slawinski (Carteret, NJ/Carteret). The next batter, Matos hit an RBI single to right field, bringing home Spadaccini from third base. Turton added the next RBI after he hit an RBI single to left field that scored Mike Ionta (Westfield, NJ/Westfield). The final run of the inning came by way of a sacrifice fly by Hunter Mason (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), driving home Matos.

 

The Peacocks four-run rally cut the final scored to 12-4.

 

Saint Peter's and Siena will conclude the series on Monday at 2pm.
