BRONX, NY – The Saint Peter's baseball team opened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Saturday at Houlihan Park in Bronx, NY with a doubleheader against the Manhattan Jaspers, falling in both contests. The Peacocks suffered a 15-5 defeat in the first game and a 2-0 setback in game two.
Cole Robbins (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) was the team leader at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored. Eric Mercado (Bronx, NY / All Hallows), Angel Perez (Jersey City, NJ / Marist HS), and Anthony Ramos (North Bergen, NJ / North Bergen) each picked up an RBI in the contest, while Nick Ciocco (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill), Austin Feigin (Toms River, NJ / Toms River North), Hunter Mason (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee), and Jared Quintero (Paterson, NJ / Passaic County Tech HS) each scored a run for the Peacocks.
Starting pitcher, Joe Albunia (Jersey City, NJ / Hudson Catholic) (0-1) tossed 1.1 innings in the defeat.
Starting righty, Willie Krajnik (Lyndhurst, NJ / Saint Mary) pitched a complete game in contest number two. Krajnik (0-1) retired six batters and gave up six hits. His only blemish in the game came in the top of the third when both runs were scored.
Ciocco was the lone Peacock to earn a hit in the game, posting a 2-for-3 night at the plate with singles in the second and seventh innings.
The Peacocks and Jaspers will meet again on Sunday in the final game of the season series at 4 p.m. in Bronx, NY at Houlihan Park on the campus of Fordham.
