First Pitch

Following a weekend bye, the Saint Peter's baseball team will meet two New Jersey schools this week in non-league action. On Tuesday, April 24, the Peacocks will travel to FDU for a meeting in Teaneck at 4 p.m. On Wednesday, April 25 the Peacocks travel to Rutgers for a 3 p.m. first pitch.

 

Scouting the Knights

The FDU Knights bring a 9-24 record into Tuesday's match. Since FDU knocked off the Peacocks on April 11, the team has gone 1-8, only defeating Mount St. Mary's 3-2.

 

Last time we met FDU

The Peacocks gave up two leads and allowed a six-run rally over the final three innings, resulting in a 10-6 defeat to Fairleigh Dickinson on April 11.

 

Scout on the Scarlet Knights

Rutgers boasts a 21-15 record. The Scarlet Knights most recently took a Big Ten series from Nebraska, winning games 1 and 3. Prior to the conference series, Rutgers knocked off Monmouth, 7-6.

 

Last time we met Rutgers

The Peacocks last met Rutgers on May 17, 2016 in the non-conference season finale. The Peacocks dropped the contest, 12-3.

Last Time Out

The Peacocks are coming off of a weekend bye after dropping a heartbreaking 6-4 home meeting to NJIT. Anthony Ramos played a role in all four Peacock runs, accounting for three RBIs and one run scored.

On Deck

The Peacocks will play host to Niagara this weekend in a MAAC home series. The teams meet on Saturday, April 28 at 12 and 2 p.m., and on Sunday, April 29 at 1 p.m.

 

MAAC Preseason Polls

The defending MAAC Baseball Champions, Marist, was voted by the leagues 11 head coaches to repeat as MAAC Baseball Champions in 2018, receiving seven out of 11 first-place votes, totaling 113 votes. Coming in second place was Canisius with two first-place votes, followed by Fairfield in third with one first-place vote, and Niagara in fourth also earning one first-place vote. Monmouth rounded out the top five, followed by Iona, Siena, Quinnipiac, Rider, Manhattan, and then the Peacocks.

 

About the Coach

Danny Ramirez begins his second season at the helm of the Peacocks. Ramirez joined Saint Peter's with over 25 years of experience as a player, coach, and scout in the Northeast. As a player at Bronx Community College he was a member of the 1994 CUNY City Championship team and the 1995 team that played in the Junior College World Series. Ramirez has coached and managed at many levels beginning his career with the Boys Club of New York and Major League Baseball's RBI program where he led several teams to city championships while working with inner city youth of all ages. Ramirez then coached at Lasalle Academy High School for two years before accepting the Head Men's Baseball Coach position at Globe Institute of Technology. At Globe, he led the Knights to the school's first district tournament win before moving on to Monroe College in 2007. At Monroe College, Ramirez was part of the coaching staff as the program transitioned from a Division III program in 2006, into one of the top NJCAA Division I programs in the Northeast. He served as the Infield/Outfield Coach, Strength Training and Agility development, and most recently as Associate Head Coach/Pitching Coach. Throughout the past nine years, Monroe has produced over 60 NCAA signees and several players that were either drafted by Major League Organizations or signed free agent contracts to play professional baseball.
