The Peacocks travel to New Rochelle, NY for a weekend MAAC series with Iona. The teams play a twin bill on Saturday, May 12 starting at noon and conclude the series on Sunday, May 13 at noon.


Gaels Scouting Report

The Iona Gaels enter the weekend series at 8-12 in conference play and 14-30 overall. The Gaels currently sit in ninth place in the MAAC standings sitting a couple of games outside of the playoff race. Iona has two players batting over .300, led by Sean Breen (.320) and Sean Scales (.308). Breen is also the team leader with five home runs on the season.

Recent History with Iona

The Peacocks and Gaels met last season with two games at a neutral site and one game at Iona, with the Gaels earning the season sweep over the Peacocks. The Peacocks last defeated Iona in 2015, earning a 2-1 series win with a 7-5 win in game 1 and a 2-0 shutout win in game 2.

Last Time Out

The Peacocks concluded their home slate with a series against Monmouth this past weekend. The Hawks earned the series sweep over the Peacocks pulling out two close games in game 2 and 3.


On Deck

The Peacocks close out the 2018 season in Loudonville, NY with a MAAC series against Siena College. The teams will meet in a doubleheader on Thursday, May 17 at noon, followed by a single game on Friday, May 18 at noon.


MAAC Preseason Polls

The defending MAAC Baseball Champions, Marist, was voted by the leagues 11 head coaches to repeat as MAAC Baseball Champions in 2018, receiving seven out of 11 first-place votes, totaling 113 votes. Coming in second place was Canisius with two first-place votes, followed by Fairfield in third with one first-place vote, and Niagara in fourth also earning one first-place vote. Monmouth rounded out the top five, followed by Iona, Siena, Quinnipiac, Rider, Manhattan, and then the Peacocks.


About the Coach

Danny Ramirez begins his second season at the helm of the Peacocks. Ramirez joined Saint Peter's with over 25 years of experience as a player, coach, and scout in the Northeast. As a player at Bronx Community College he was a member of the 1994 CUNY City Championship team and the 1995 team that played in the Junior College World Series. Ramirez has coached and managed at many levels beginning his career with the Boys Club of New York and Major League Baseball's RBI program where he led several teams to city championships while working with inner city youth of all ages. Ramirez then coached at Lasalle Academy High School for two years before accepting the Head Men's Baseball Coach position at Globe Institute of Technology. At Globe, he led the Knights to the school's first district tournament win before moving on to Monroe College in 2007. At Monroe College, Ramirez was part of the coaching staff as the program transitioned from a Division III program in 2006, into one of the top NJCAA Division I programs in the Northeast. He served as the Infield/Outfield Coach, Strength Training and Agility development, and most recently as Associate Head Coach/Pitching Coach. Throughout the past nine years, Monroe has produced over 60 NCAA signees and several players that were either drafted by Major League Organizations or signed free agent contracts to play professional baseball.
