NEW YORK, NY – Saint Peter's men's basketball center, Quadir Welton (Philadelphia, PA/Math, Civics and Science Charter) has added more hardware to his collection, as the senior has been named to the All-Met Division I Second Team, announced by the Met Basketball Writers Association on Monday. Welton is the first Peacock to make an All-Met team since 2011 when Wesley Jenkins earned a spot on the All-Met Third Team and first to make the second team since Jenkins did it as a sophomore in 2009.
Welton closed out his final season as a Peacock leading the team in scoring, total rebounds, offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, blocks, and double-doubles. He averaged 12.0 points per game which ranked 25th in the MAAC, 8.3 rebounds per outing which was fourth in the conference, 1.0 blocks a contest which placed him 10th in the league, and posted nine total double-doubles which was tied for third most in the MAAC this season. The Philadelphia native scored a career-high 27 points against Boston on November 28 and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds against Furman on March 29. Welton was named to the All-MAAC First team in 2017 and helped the team to a second place regular season finish in the MAAC. In addition to his MAAC accolades this season, Welton also earned the CollegeInsider.com (CIT) MVP and All-Tournament team honors after leading the Peacocks to their first ever CIT Championship.
For his career, Welton has recorded 1,191 points, 884 rebounds, and 136 blocked shots. He leaves the school ranking third all-time in career rebounds and career blocks.
Joining Welton as MAAC members to earn All-Met honors were Iona's Jordan Washington and Monmouth's Justin Robinson on the first team, Fairfield's Tyler Nelson on the second team, and Monmouth's Micah Seaborn on the third team.
All players named to the All-Met First and Second Teams along with the major award winners will be honored at the 84th NIT/MBWA All-Met Haggerty Awards dinner on Wednesday, April 26, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, NY.
