Niagara Defeats Men's and Women's Tennis on Senior Day

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University men's and women's tennis teams fell in a MAAC match to Niagara University, 7-0 and 6-1, respectively. This was the last home match for both teams and the final women's match for the 2016-2017 season. Both teams went winless in conference, 0-6. The men's record drops to 1-20 overall and the women's record drops to 2-18 overall. Saint Peter's University Athletics honored the six combined seniors: Lucia Radovic, Malieva Hedberg, Claudia Hellman, Elena Melian Puigventos, Andres-Sebastian Rojas, and Cuong Lam.

 

Men's Results - The Peacocks lost the doubles tandem point, 3-0. Ivan Knezevic and Andres-Sebastian Rojas lost to Felipe Fuentes and Francis Nadeau at No. 1, 6-1. Gabriel Russotto and Cuong Lam were dropped at No. 2 by Josh Wilson and Lukas Wenninger, 6-1. Douglas Nover and Jonathan Paredes fought but lost 6-4 to Jason Wisely and Taylan Ozdemir at No. 3. The Peacocks were able to get a couple of sets but couldn't win the match. Lam lost a tough three set battle to Chris Grossi at No. 6, 7-5, 6(1)-7, 6-4. Nover fell to Nadeau, 4-6, 7-6(3), [10]-[3] at No. 3. Knezevic was defeated at the top singles position, 6-2, 6-0, against Fuentes. Rojas lost to Ozdemir at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0. Russotto lost a No. 4 to Wilson, 6-3, 6-3. Paredes fell in two tightly contest sets, 6-4, 6-4, to Wenninger at No. 5.

 

Women's Results - The women lost the doubles point. Lucia Radovic and Malieva Hedberg lost a tight set to Shannon Wong and Sharlee Deshmukh at No. 1, 7-5. Elena Melian Puigventos and Claudia Hellman were dropped at No. 2, 6-3, to Sansriti Ranjan and Ali Hutchinson. Aidah Muhammad and Azuri Hughes were defeated by Jasmin Vargas and Stella Peisakhova, 6-2, at No. 3. The only Peacock to win a point was Christian Resurreccion at No. 6 against Vargas, 6-2, 6-2. Radovic fell to Peisakhova at the top singles position, 7-5, 6-2. Puigventos was dropped by Ranjan, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2. Hedberg was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 against Wong. Hellman lost 6-2, 6-0 at No 4. to Deshmukh. Stephanie Falcon fell 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 to Hutchinson.

 

End of Women's Season Stats - Lucia Radovic ended her final season with six singles and seven doubles wins. Elena Melian Puigventos ended her final season with two singles and three doubles wins. Malieva Hedberg ended her final season with six doubles wins. Claudia Hellman ended her final season with four singles and three doubles wins. Stephanie Falcon ended her sophomore season with three singles and two doubles wins. Christian Resurreccion ended her junior season with seven singles and two doubles wins. Aidah Muhammad ended her sophomore season with one singles and one doubles wins. Azuri Hughes ended her freshman season with two singles wins.
