Nine Men’s and Women’s Tennis Student-Athletes Named ITA All-Academic and Scholar-Athletes

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Nine Saint Peter's University men's and women's tennis student-athletes have been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic teams and Scholar-Athletes, announced by the ITA. A total of 1,521 scholar-athletes from 302 Division I teams were announced with six women's tennis and three men's tennis honorees coming from Saint Peter's.

"It shows that you have your priorities in order, manage your time well and exemplify the definition of student athlete," expressed head coach Mike Scolamieri.

The nine Peacocks to earn ITA All-Academic and Scholar-Athlete accolades include: Malieva Hedberg, Claudia Hellman, Azuri Hughes, Ivan Knezevic, Cuong Lam, Douglas Nover, Elena Melian Puigventos, Aidah Muhammad, and Christian Resurreccion.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.00 scale. All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
