Men's Tennis Open the Spring Season with Setback at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Saint Peter's University men's tennis team began their winter/spring campaign with a 7-0 loss at the United States Naval Academy. This drops their overall record to 1-3.

 

Doubles Results - Hector Andres Jacome and John Oxner were defeated 6-1 at the top spot by  Greg Durham and Zach Jennings. Ivan Knezevic and Piotr Sowinski lost a close 7-5 decision at No. 2 against Peter Lohrbach and Andrey Majkic. No. 3, Ignacio Tintore and Gabriel Russotto, fell to Romesh Kahatapitiya and Joshua Martin, 6-3.

 

Singles Results - Jacome lost a close first set and ultimately the match, 7-5, 6-1, to Durham at No. 1. Sowinski fell 6-0, 6-2 to Walker Sims at No. 2. Oxner and Tintore were able to win the opening set but lost their respective matches at a No. 3 and 4. Oxner dropped his match against Kahatapitiya, 4-6, 6-4, [10]-[8]. Tintore was defeated by Sims, 4-6, 7-5, [10]-[2]. Douglas Nover lost to Martin by identical set scores of 6-1 at No. 5. Knezevic dropped a 6-0, 6-2 match against Andrew Hicks.

 

Up Next - The men's team will return home and take a two-week hiatus from playing a dual match. Queens (N.Y.) will be welcomed to the Yanitelli Recreational Life Center on February 4 with first serve at 2pm.
