JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's men's tennis team was swept, 7-0, by Marist College in a MAAC match on Thursday. The team's overall record drops to 1-6 and 0-2 in conference.
Doubles Results - The Peacocks dropped the doubles point, 2-1. John Oxner and Ignacio Tintore provided the lone win on the day at No. 2 over Javier Restrepo and Christopher Gladden. No. 1, Hector Andres Jacome and Piotr Sowinski, and No. 3, Ivan Knezevic and Douglas Nover, fell by identical scores; both teams fell 6-2 to the respective teams of Rudolf Kurz and Gianlucca Massa and Jan Dernic and Paulo Siracusa.
Singles Results - The team competed better than in past years but ultimately lost a couple of three setters by Sowinski at No. 2 and Oxner at No. 3. Sowinski fell 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 to Kurz and Oxner was defeated 6(4)-7, 6-1, -. Jacome lost to Restrepo at the top spot, 6-4, 6-1. Tintore suffered a setback to Lars Schouten at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1. Igor Khvorostian fell by Gladden, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5. Knezevic lost by identical set scores of 6-4 to Dernic at No. 6.
Up Next - The Saint Peter's men's tennis team, along with the women's tennis team, will host Coppin State on Saturday, February 17 in the Yanitelli Recreational Life Center Bubble. First serve is set to be hit at noon.
