JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's men's and women's tennis teams went winless against La Salle University; the men's team fell, 5-2, while the women were swept, 7-0. The record for the men drops to 2-10 and the women fall to 0-11.
Men's Results - Coach Scolamieri changed the doubles lineup in this match, looking for better results but it unfortunately did not work as the team was swept in doubles. John Oxner and Piotr Sowinski lost in a tiebreak, 7-6(6), against Francesco Mowrey and Tomas Christian at No. 1. No. 2, Ivan Knezevic and Douglas Nover, and No. 3, Hector Andres Jacome and Igor Khovorostian, were defeated by identical set scores of 6-1 to the respective teams of Rogelio Gonzalez and Connor Merrill and Patrick Pascual and Colin Lucius. No. 2, Sowinski, and No. 4, Ignacio Tintore posted the lone points on the board; Sowinski defeated Christian 6-4, 6-2 and Tintore defeated Merrill 7-6(5), 6-3. Jacome won the first game against Mowrey and then lost the next 12, losing 6-1, 6-0 at the top spot. Oxner started well but ultimately ran out of gas, losing at No. 3, 0-6, 7-6(0), 6-0 to Gonzalez. Gabriel Russotto succumbed to Pascual at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4. Sebastian Ferrer was upended, 6-4, 6-1, by Lucius at No. 6.
Women's Results - The Peacocks were able to win one set during the match at No. 1 doubles; Stephanie Falcon and Aidah Muhammad defeated Tiffany Theophil and Ali Snyder, 6-4. No. 2, Marta Ortega and Jennifer Guilherme lost to Jade Smith and Brittany Poje, 6-1. No. 3 doubles was default by the Peacocks as they only had five suited players. Falcon played a strong second set against Theophil but fell, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 1. Muhammad put a few games on the board but was upended by Snyder at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1. Ortega was defeated at No. 3 by Poje, 6-3, 6-1. Guilherme failed to win a game against Smith at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0. No. 5 and 6 singles were defaulted by Saint Peter's.
Up Next - The men's tennis team will take a three week hiatus and will return on March 16 to host a match in the Yanitelli Recreational Life Center Bubble against Wager; first serve is set for 2:45 p.m. The women's team will have a match on the last day of spring break, March 11, against St. Francis Brooklyn; the match will start at 1 p.m. in the Yanitelli Recreational Life Center Bubble.
