EDGEWATER, NJ - The Saint Peter's tennis teams fell to MAAC foe Niagara at the Binghamton Racquet Club on Sunday. The men's team lost a heartbreaker, 4-3, while the women were swept, 7-0.
Men's Results - For the second straight day, the Peacocks lost the doubles tandem point, 2-1. John Oxner and Piotr Sowinski were victorious over Finnbar Adams and Eduardo Villalpando Heredia at No. 1, 6-3. No. 2, Ignacio Tintore and Hector Andres Jacome, lost to Taylan Ozdemir and Shyam Srinivasan, 7-5. Ivan Knezevic and Douglas Nover were defeated, 6-1, at No. 3 against Josh Wilson and Pere Padro Parra. No. 4, Tintore, No. 5, Knezevic, and No. 6, Igor Khvorostian, were all victorious in singles over Padro Parra, Srinivasan, and Villalpando Heredia, respectively. Tintore won 6-2, 6-4. Knezevic won 6-2, 6-2. Khvorostian won 6-1, 6-2. Jacome fell by identical set scores of 7-5 at No. 1 against Ozdemir. Sowinski was defeated, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2 against Wilson. Oxner lost a heartbreaker at No. 3 to Adams, 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(1).
Women's Results - Stephanie Falcon and Azuri Hughes were not able to win a game at No. 1 against Stella Peisakhova and Andreea Peteu. Marta Ortega and Jennifer Guilherme lost at No. 2, 6-1, to Chhinda Som and Ali Hutchinson. Falcon lost at the top spot, 6-0, 6-2, against Peisakhova. Hughes was defeated by Peteu at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1. Ortega suffered a setback to Som at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1. Guilherme lost to Hutchinson, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4.
Up Next - The women's tennis team will return to action on Tuesday, April 17 when they travel to Teaneck, NJ for their final road match against Fairleigh Dickinson. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the FDU Tennis Courts. The men's tennis team will travel to Fairfield, CT for their final road match on Sunday, April 22. The team will battle conference foe Fairfield at 1:00 p.m. at the WAC Tennis Courts.
