JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University softball team and head coach Chris Stelma has announced the 2017 season schedule. The Peacocks 42-game slate, features 15 games at Jaroschak Field, including the season opener against Susquehanna on Saturday, February 25 at 1pm.
"With some changes in both the 2017 coaching staff and with some new teams on our schedule for the 2017 season, we are excited to start the next phase of the Peacock Softball program," said head coach Stelma. "We have a strong group of players and coaches who are committed to their goals of regaining a winning tradition."
The Peacocks have a two week break before returning to the diamond in mid-march when the team heads to Vero Beach, Fl to play a doubleheader against Bucknell on March 14. Saint Peter's will then head back to New Jersey to participate in the First Annual Pirate Invitational at Seton Hall, playing host Seton Hall on March 15 and facing Brown University on March 16 and 17. The Peacocks will close out the month of March in the state of Pennsylvania. First the squad will meet Lafayette in Easton on the 28th for a doubleheader, then they will match up against Drexel in Philadelphia on the 30th in a doubleheader meeting.
In April, Saint Peter's will start conference play, opening up against Siena at home on Saturday the 1st with a doubleheader. The following day, the Peacocks will head to Connecticut to play a doubleheader against Quinnipiac. On Saturday, April 8, Saint Peter's will road trip to Buffalo to face Niagara, then will battle Canisius on the 9th. The team will then travel to the big apple to meet non-conference opponent, Wagner College, on April 11 and then Ivy league foe Columbia, on April 12. Saint Peter's will return to MAAC play against Manhattan on April 13. The Peacocks will meet Hartford at Seton Hall (April 17) and Coppin St. on the road (April 18).
Saint Peter's will return home at Jaroschak Field for the remainder of the month of April. The Peacocks will welcome Robert Morris on April 21, then play in conference against Marist on the 22nd. On April 26, Saint Peter's will meet County College of Morris, then welcome hOURglass rival, Monmouth on April 29. The Peacocks will finish out the month playing against Iona on April 30.
Saint Peter's will conclude the 2017 season in May, playing at Fairfield on the 6th and at home against hOURglass opponent, Rider on the 7th.
