OPENING PITCH

The Saint Peter's softball team will host hOURglass rival Monmouth, in a doubleheader matchup on Saturday and MAAC opponent Iona on Sunday.

WORD ON THE HAWKS

Monmouth defeated Stony Brook 6-1 on Monday, April 24. Justene Reyes leads the Hawks with a .351 batting average, recording 12 doubles and six home runs so far this season. Pitcher, Amanda Riley started 24 games and totaled 12 wins along with 179 stuck outs.

WORD ON THE GAELS

Iona swept Rider on April 26, winning the first game 7-0 and the second 6-0. Kristen Turner leads the Gaels with 36 RBI's and eight homeruns with a batting average of .357 while Ashlyn Morris leads the team with 22 runs.

LAST TIME OUT

Saint Peter's dropped a doubleheader to Marist Saturday evening at Jaroschak Field. The Peacocks fell 9-5 in the first game and 14-2 in the second. At bat, Alina Guevara and Shamar Sanchez led with doubles while five other players tallied an RBI each in the first game. Sam Storms led the squad with two RBI's including a home run in the second game.

MAAC STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (4/10/17)

The MAAC Student-Athlete of the week for the week of 4/10 was senior, Samantha Storms. Storms has a .363 batting average on 4-for-11 hitting. She hit a two-run homer on Monday, April 10th against Niagara recording two RBI's. Storms is second with 10 RBI's, 7 runs, 4 doubles, and 6 walks.

WELCOME BACK

Saint Peter's softball team will return 10 players including four seniors, (Samantha Storms, Alyssa Ruiz, Crystal Carlucci,Candace Koch) two juniors, (Nicole Feoli, Chamar Sanchez), and four sophomores, (Schieler Collins, Harley Connors, Tiffani Lambert, Sydney Ramsey).

ROOKIES

The Peacocks welcome five freshmen to the team Kathleen Donovan (Abington, NJ), Alina Guevara (Agoura Hills, CA), Theamaris Ramirez (Homestead, FL),Brianna Hutchinson (Lebanon,OH) and Georgia Verrastro (Scott Township, PA).

COACHING STAFF

Chris Stelma begins his first season at the helm of Saint Peter's. He most recently served as an assistant coach at Division III, William Paterson University in New Jersey during the 2016 season. Prior to joining William Paterson, he was the owner of Fielder's Choice Baseball/Kaboom Softball in Andover, where he coordinates training, league play, tournaments and facilities, and served as the head coach of the U18 Showcase baseball and softball teams. Stelma was the baseball head coach at his alma mater, County College of Morris during the fall of 2007.

Stelma earned a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Rhode Island in 2006. While at URI, Stelma was a member of the baseball team where he played two seasons at shortstop for the Rams, making 31 starts and appearing in over 40 games. Prior to transferring to URI, Stelma began his collegiate career at County College of Morris where he played for current Saint Peter's assistant coach Ed Moskal in 2003. He was named All-Region and All-Garden State Conference at County College of Morris and ranked in the top 15 among JUCO hitters in 2003.
