JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University softball team split their weekend doubleheader with MAAC hOURglass rival Monmouth on Saturday, dropping the first game 12-9 and winning the second 4-2. The Peacock's overall record moves to 4-30 and 2-11 in conference.
"It's nice when the scoreboard reflects the team. We were down to 11 active players today with only one sub on the bench," said head coach Chris Stelma.
Saint Peter's started Crystal Carlucci who pitched 6.0 innings. The Peacocks were able to get five hits including three RBI's and three runs.
In the bottom of the first, Nicole Feoli tripled, advancing Connors to home base, giving the Peacocks the lead 1-0. Samantha Storms singled leading Feoli to score. Carlucci singled allowing Koch to tally another run. Saint Peter's led Monmouth 3-2 at the end of the first inning.
The Hawks held the Peacocks to three as they tallied two runs in the second, third, one run in the top of the sixth and two in the top of the seventh, winning the game 9-3.
The Peacocks started Alyssa Ruiz who pitched a complete game with three strikeouts while allowing only two runs while Storms led the squad with two run and two RBI's including a home run.
The Peacocks took the advantage in the bottom of the first as Koch doubled to advance Storms to third and Shamar Sanchez home. Carlucci singled and advanced Koch to third allowing Storms to score leading the Hawks 2-1.
The Hawks came back to complete one run in the top of the second trailing the Peacocks 2-1.
In the bottom of the third, Storms hit a two-run homer and extending the lead over the Hawks to
Monmouth tallied another run in the top of the sixth to cut the Peacocks lead to 4-2.
The Peacocks held on to win the game 4-2.
"Nicole Feoli played the best center field I've seen today making two diving plays," said Stelma. "It was a well played game all the way around for Saint Peter's Softball today, said Stelma.
The Peacocks will host Iona in a doubleheader at Jaroschak Field on April 30. The first game will start promptly at 1pm.
