Men's Swimming Starts Season with Two Wins

NEWARK, NJ – The Saint Peter's men's swimming team started the 2017-18 season in impressive fashion, picking up wins in both meets at NJIT on Saturday. The Peacocks men's team defeated NJIT, 110-95, and knocked off Mount Saint Mary's, 137-68. The women's team only faced Mount Saint Mary's, falling 134-57.

"The men's team came out with an unmatched amount of energy and support for one another," said head coach Mark Kretzer. "It was the first competition of the year for the Peacocks who look to make a statement in their dual meet schedule this year."

The men's team improves to 2-0 on the season. Freshman Andrew Galarza was the only double winner of both meets in the 1000 and 500 Freestyle. Senior Captain Igal Oren helped anchor the winning 200 Medley Relay and took home first in the 100 Freestyle to help secure the hard-fought win against NJIT.

The women lost a hard-fought meet against Mount Saint Mary's. The women posted relay times that have already topped last year's season bests. They took home four of nine individual event victories, including a double winner from freshman Lindsey Hanger. Senior Captain Karen Castaneda anchored both relays with strong performances and an individual victory in the 500 freestyle.

Both men's and women's teams continue their dual meet schedule with another double dual competition on Saturday October 21, at 5pm at Pace University with Manhattan College.
