EVENT: Men's Tri-Meet with NJIT and Bryant

Opening dive... The men's swimming team heads to NJIT for the second time in less than a month, to compete in a tri-meet with host NJIT and Bryant. The meet will be a two-day event with competition on Friday and Saturday.
The last time we met the Highlanders… The Peacocks last faced NJIT on October 14, defeating the Highlanders, 110-95. Freshman Andrew Galarza was the winner of the 1000 and 500 Freestyle, while senior captain Igal Oren helped anchor the winning 200 Medley Relay and he took home first in the 100 Freestyle to help secure the hard-fought win against NJIT.
Last time in the water… The squad earned two more wins for the season on October 21, knocking off Pace University (180-96) and Manhattan College (141-117). Freshman Oleksiy Polishchuk had a breakout performance by putting the team on his back, winning all three of his events, the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 400 individual medley.
Perfect start to the season… The men's swimming team opened up the 2017-18 season with four straight wins, compiling a 4-0 overall record and 1-0 MAAC record. The team put together wins over Mount Saint Mary's, NJIT, MAAC foe Manhattan, and Pace.
Next time in the water… The women's swimming team returns to action on Saturday, November 18, when the teams travels to Stony Brook for a dual meet. Both the men and women will next participate in the annual H2ounds Invitational in Baltimore, Maryland on the campus of Loyola University. The invitational will feature host Loyola, Iona, Marist, and Mount St. Mary's
Preseason Polls… The Saint Peter's University men's swimming team was selected seventh in 2017-18 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) preseason coaches' poll. The men's team received 31 votes in the poll. The Saint Peter's University women's swimming team was picked 10th in the MAAC women's coaches' poll. The women's team earned 10 votes.
About the coach… Mark Kretzer begins his second season as the head coach for swimming and diving in 2017-18. In 2016-17, Kretzer led the men's swimming and diving team to three victories, including a win on senior day against MAAC rival Monmouth. The men's team finished in seventh place and the MAAC tournament and Kretzer coach 12 student-athletes that made the MAAC All-Academic team. Kretzer has served as the Team Suffolk Swim Club Elite/Jr. Elite Team Coach and the Half Hollow Hills Central School District Aquatics Director since 2010 and Aquatic All-Stars LLC Owner and Head Coach since 2009. He also most recently held the position of Head Girls Varsity Swimming Coach at Northport High School in Northport, NY. With Team Suffolk, he coached two 2016 Olympic Trial Qualifiers and numerous national championship qualifiers. As the Boy's Varsity Coach at Half Hollow Hills, he led the team to a New York State Team Championship in 2016. From 2010-2014 Kretzer coached the current Jamaican national record holder in five events. Post College, Kretzer spent three years working and training with Olympic and NCAA champions at Imagine Swimming, and the New York Athletic Club. Kretzer is a 2006 graduate of Bucknell University where he was a two-time Patriot League Conference Champion in the 200 fly and 100 backstroke. He was the class of 2006 Patriot League high point scorer as well. Kretzer also held the Suffolk County high school record in the 100 backstroke and was a five-time New York State Finalist.
