EVENT: Men's and Women's Swim at Monmouth University

Opening dive... The men's and women's swim teams will continue conference action against hOURglass Rival Monmouth on Saturday, January 20, at 1 p.m. in The Richard E. Steadman Natatorium in West Long Branch. The women's swim team will also compete against LIU Brooklyn at the meet.
Monmouth scout... The Hawks men's team is currently 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the MAAC, while the women's squad is 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the MAAC. Both programs lone conference win came against Manhattan.
Last time in the water… The swim teams hosted Lafayette College for their 2018 home opener on Tuesday night. The men's team knocked off the Leopards, 151-127, improving their record to 5-2 on the season. The women's team came up short to a tough Leopard team, falling 161-70.
Next time in the water… The men's and women's swim teams return to Jersey City for their senior day and alumni meets on Sunday, January 21. The Peacocks will host St. Francis Brooklyn with the first race set to start at 1:30 p.m.
Women dominate Stony Brook… The women's swim team earned the first win of the 2017-18 season in dominating fashion, knocking off Stony Brook, 103-82 on the road. The Peacocks never trailed in the meet on their way to the team's first victory under head coach Mark Kretzer.
Perfect start to the season… The men's swim team opened up the 2017-18 season with four straight wins, compiling a 4-0 overall record and 1-0 MAAC record. The team put together wins over Mount Saint Mary's, NJIT, MAAC foe Manhattan, and Pace.
Preseason Polls… The Saint Peter's University men's swim team was selected seventh in 2017-18 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) preseason coaches' poll. The men's team received 31 votes in the poll. The Saint Peter's University women's swim team was picked 10th in the MAAC women's coaches' poll. The women's team earned 10 votes.
About the coach… Mark Kretzer begins his second season as the head coach for swimming and diving in 2017-18. In 2016-17, Kretzer led the men's swimming and diving team to three victories, including a win on senior day against MAAC rival Monmouth. The men's team finished in seventh place and the MAAC tournament and Kretzer coach 12 student-athletes that made the MAAC All-Academic team. Kretzer has served as the Team Suffolk Swim Club Elite/Jr. Elite Team Coach and the Half Hollow Hills Central School District Aquatics Director since 2010 and Aquatic All-Stars LLC Owner and Head Coach since 2009. He also most recently held the position of Head Girls Varsity Swimming Coach at Northport High School in Northport, NY. With Team Suffolk, he coached two 2016 Olympic Trial Qualifiers and numerous national championship qualifiers. As the Boy's Varsity Coach at Half Hollow Hills, he led the team to a New York State Team Championship in 2016. From 2010-2014 Kretzer coached the current Jamaican national record holder in five events. Post College, Kretzer spent three years working and training with Olympic and NCAA champions at Imagine Swimming, and the New York Athletic Club. Kretzer is a 2006 graduate of Bucknell University where he was a two-time Patriot League Conference Champion in the 200 fly and 100 backstroke. He was the class of 2006 Patriot League high point scorer as well. Kretzer also held the Suffolk County high school record in the 100 backstroke and was a five-time New York State Finalist.
