Day 1 Recap


BUFFALO, NY – Freshman Andrew Galarza, placed eighth in the men's 500 free, swimming a 4:43.39 and earning the first Peacock medal of the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Swimming & Diving Championships in Buffalo, NY at the Burt Flickenger Center at Erie Community College. Graduate Igal Oren set a new Peacock record in the 50 free, posting a finishing time of 20.53 in the lead-off relay spot, breaking the 10-year old Peacock record of 20.64, which was set by Mikas Zuravliovas in 2008. The men's swim team remains in sixth place after day two of competition, holding 114 points. The women's team remains in 10th place with 42 points.


On the men's side, the Peacocks had two B Final winners, each earning nine team points for Saint Peter's. First, freshman Oleksiy Polishchuk won the 200 IM in a time of 1:52.78 and Oren took the 50 free with a final time of 20.79. Senior Thomas Calloni also competed in the 500 free, clearing a 4:43.42 consolation finishing time, good for a 15th place finish and junior Daniel Betts finished in 16th place in the 50 free, completing the event in 21.40. The men's team ended the night with a fifth-place finish in the 200 free relay, garnering 28 team points, swam by Oren, Michael Spark, Joshua Varrie, and Betts in a finishing time of 1:23.91


On the women's side, the team earned 14 points in the 200 free relay, swam by the Rachel Valentine, Angel Gabinete, Ericka Leynes, and Brianni Thomas.


Action resumes tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with prelims followed by finals at 6 p.m.
