HAMDEN, CT - Saint Peter's women's basketball fell to first place, Quinnipiac in their second meeting of the season, 82-47 on Monday night in the TD Bank Sports Center. Sophomore guard, Janelle Mullen, led the Peacocks with 15 points in the loss against the Bobcats while Sajanna Bethea registered nine points and five rebounds. Saint Peter's drops to an overall record of 3-10 and 2-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
"We committed a lot of unforced turnovers and unfortunately Quinnipiac capitalized off of them," said head coach Pat Coyle.
It was a rough start for the Peacocks as the Bobcats pulled away from a five-point tie, leading 25-15 at the end of the first quarter. Quinnipiac advanced to a 43-22 lead over the Peacocks going into halftime.
After the break, the Peacocks posted 18 points in the third quarter alone, with help from junior Bethea and Mullen with seven points each. Unfortunately the Peacocks were unable to break the deficit in the fourth quarter as the Bobcats held on to win 82-47.
Aryn McClure and Adily Martucci led the Quinnipiac Bobcats, posting 15 points apiece.
Next up… The Peacocks will return to home court to welcome New York foe and MAAC defending champions, Iona College on Jan. 5 in the Yanitelli Center at 7pm.
