WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Saint Peter's women's basketball dropped its hOURglass rivalry contest to Monmouth, 76-59, at the Times Bank Center on Saturday afternoon. Janelle Mullen led the Peacocks with 13 points and four assists while Talah Hughes added 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
"What really hurt us is the second opportunities they got from us not boxing out on the defensive end." said head coach Pat Coyle.
In the first quarter the Peacocks battled the Hawks well, tying twice at 5-5 and 8-8 before taking a 20-14 lead into intermission.
The second quarter was the difference in the game as the Hawks used outscored the Peacocks, 28-8 in the period. The 20 point advantage quarter led to a 42-28 halftime deficit for Saint Peter's.
Both teams added 11 points to the scoreboard in the third quarter, keeping the deficit at 14 heading into the final quarter.
Monmouth kept the strong lead going into the fourth quarter and did not allow a Saint Peter's comeback, as the Peacocks fell to the Hawks 76-59 despite a 20-point quarter.
Next up the Peacocks will host Canisius in the Yanitelli Center on January 13. Tipoff is scheduled to start at 7pm.
