PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team fell to Saint Joseph's, 87-58, in the Hawk Classic championship game on Sunday afternoon. Alyssa Velles led the the Peacocks with 13 points while Brianna Tarabocchia added a career high of 12 points.
Leading the Hawks was Alyssa Monaghan with 18 points. Sarah Veilleux added 16 points while Chelsea woods posted 12 points.
In the first quarter, the Hawks led the Peacocks 11-4 six minutes into the quarter. The Peacocks added six more points before the Hawks extended their lead to 20-10. Saint Peter's held the Hawks to four points and they added eight points to trail 24-18 with three points from Magazine and five points from Tarabocchia to end the quarter.
The Peacocks continued to trail the Hawks in the second quarter falling behind, 28-21. Offensive efforts from Sammy Lochner and Tarabocchia got the Peacocks within three points, with Saint Peter's trailing, 30-27 with 6:16 remaining in the half. The Hawks closed out the period on a 21-5 run, taking a 51-32 lead over the Peacocks into the break.
After halftime, the Hawks increased their lead over the Peacocks to 67-43 after a 16-11 third quarter. In the quarter, the Peacocks were led offensively by Velles who scored six points on two made three-point field goals.
In the final quarter, seven different Peacock's scored points, leading to the 15-point quarter for the team.
The Peacocks had 11 out of 14 players that saw action score in the game.
The Peacocks will resume play on Thursday, November 30 in the Yanitelli Center as they face St. Francis Brooklyn. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm.
