HAMDEN, CT - Saint Peter's women's basketball dropped a road Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest to Quinnipiac, 86-39 on Saturday afternoon.
Brianna Tarabocchia led the team with nine points, Talah Hughes added eight points, and Ashlie Howell posted a career high seven points and a team high eight rebounds.
The Peacocks got off to a rough start as they were only able to score four points in the opening quarter, trailing the Bobcats 23-4 after one. Alyssa Velles and Talah Hughes hit both jumpers to tally the first quarter scores.
In the second quarter, freshman forward Brianna Tarabocchia, appeared on the board as she scored five points with a short jumper and a three-point shot. The Bobcats led the Peacocks 38-9 before Precious Featherson added one point for the Peacocks to trail 38-10. D'Aviyon Magazine knocked down a mid-range jumper for the Peacocks to head into halftime trailing 49-12.
The Bobcats increased their lead to 54-12 before Hughes ended the Saint Peter's scoring drought and scored four points for the Peacocks. The Bobcats continued the strong lead and the Peacocks eventually picked up three points with a layup by Sajanna Bethea and a free throw from Tarabocchia. Ashlie Howell later finished a power layup followed by a free throw from Sammy Lochner to end the quarter trailing, 70-23.
The Peacocks best quarter of the afternoon came in the fourth, as Saint Peter's scored 16 and held Quinnipiac to 16 in the quarter. The Peacocks gained seven points to trail the Bobcats 74-30. The Peacocks kept high intensity as offensive efforts from Howell, Tarabocchia and Dalonzo increased the score to 39. The Bobcats went on to eventually win the game 86-39.
The Peacocks will return to Connecticut when they face Fairfield on Monday, January 15. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
