Hughes and Pero Combine for 35 points in Game Against Canisius

JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's dropped to Canisius 66-53 Thursday evening at the Yanitelli Center. Talah Hughes led the team with 18 points and Zoe Pero followed with 17 points.

D'Aviyon Magazine posted seven points and led the team with five assists while Dajiah Martin notched a career high while leading the team with 13 rebounds.

The Peacocks ended the first quarter trailing the Golden Griffins 19-7. In the second quarter, the Peacocks were able to pick up the pace as Pero and Hughes combined 11 points and the Peacocks trailed the Golden Griffins 28-18.

Offensive efforts from the team allowed the Peacocks to cut the deficit to 32-26 as Alyssa Velles, Magazine, Hughes and Pero posted two points each. Velles knocked down a three and the Golden Griffins extended their lead 37-29. Hughes scored four points and Tarabocchia posted one point and the Peacocks trailed the Golden Griffins 47-34.

In the final quarter, Hughes shot two jumpers and Magazine knocked down a three just before the media timeout as the Peacocks trailed, 53-41. Pero played hard as she scored seven points in a row for the Peacocks to make the score 63-48. The Peacocks were unable to come back and Canisius won the game 66-53.

The Peacocks will resume play this Saturday on January 20 and host the Niagara Purple Eagles in the Yanitelli Center. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
