LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Zoe Pero led the Peacocks with a double-double in a 62-52 loss against Rider on Friday night. Pero notched a career-high of 23 points and led the team with 10 rebounds.
"I'm not sure why we came out in the first half so passive but we addressed it at halftime and we played much better in the second half," said head coach Pat Coyle. "Zoe played well the entire game and she made great decisions while guarding and rebounding at a high level tonight."
Stella Johnson led the Broncs with 15 points while Kamila Hoskova and Lexi Stover posted 13 points each. Lea Favre led the team with 11 rebounds.
The Peacocks ended the first half trailing the Broncs 30-11. Pero led the Peacocks with eight points and four rebounds in the half. The Peacocks shot 23.8 percent from the floor.
The Broncs continued to extend their lead in the third quarter. As the game went on, Velles hit back-to-back threes followed by two free throws from Pero and the Peacocks trailed 39-19. Holding the Broncs to 39, Bethea made a layup and one free throw to add three points to the board, 39-22. Rider posted a three and Tarabocchia counted two points for the Peacocks, 42-24. Bethea later made a layup just before D'Aviyon Magazine found Pero in the post for two points, 44-28. The Broncs scored three points and led 47-28. The Peacocks kept fighting and were sent to the line three times and Pero, Bethea and Sammy Lochner knocked down five free throws to make it 47-33. The Broncs failed to score and Pero posted two more points to end the quarter down 47-35.
In the final quarter, the Broncs posted two points and the Peacocks clapped back as Talah Hughes and Pero worked to cut the deficit to 49-39. The Broncs tallied another point and Bethea grabbed two offensive boards and posted two points, 50-41. The Broncs gained two points and Bethea came back with a one and one, 52-44. The Broncs continued to increase their score and Pero later hit two jumpers 60-48. Bethea quickly followed with two free throws, 60-50. The Peacocks were unable to overcome the deficit and posted only two points and the Broncs won the game 62-52.
Saint Peter's will return home to host Iona in the Yanitelli Center on Thursday, February 15. The game in Jersey City is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
