JERSEY CITY, NJ – Saint Peter's women's soccer head coach Melissa Sherwood has announced the 2017 season schedule for the Peacocks. The 16-game schedule is highlighted by eight contest in Jersey City at Jaroschak Field.

"We are excited for the upcoming season," said Sherwood. "The players have learnt from last season that they can compete in the MAAC and that we belong there. The experience of last season gives these players belief, confidence and even more hunger to succeed."

The Peacocks will open up the regular season on the road for the first time since 2010, when the team travels to Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on August 26. Saint Peter's and VMI have only met twice before, previously meeting last season, when the Peacocks earned a 1-0 win and in 2013 when the Peacocks defeated the Cadets 2-0 in Jersey City.

The squad will open up its home slate at Jaroschak Field for the next three games, beginning on August 30, when the team welcomes Delaware State to Jersey City. The Peacocks lead the Hornets 9-3-1 in the all-time series. Next, the unit will host in-state foe, NJIT on September 2 for their annual meeting. The Peacocks and Highlanders have met annually since 2006, with NJIT leading the all-time series 8-2-1. The Peacocks conclude the three-game home stand with a September 6 match-up against Wagner. The Peacocks trail the Seahawks by a slim 9-10-1 margin since first meeting in 1993.

The team will hit the road again for a two-game stint at Hampton and at Sacred Heart. On September 9, the Peacocks will take on Hampton for the third straight year. The Peacocks lead the Pirates 1-0-1 all-time. Then, on September 13, the team will travel to Connecticut to visit Sacred Heart. The Peacocks will look to pick up the first program win against the Pioneers, trailing them 0-5.  

Saint Peter's will return home on September 16 to open MAAC play against Quinnipiac. The Jersey City team trails the Hamden, Connecticut squad 0-8.

On September 20, the Peacocks head to Lawrenceville for an hOURglass Rivalry match-up with Rider. The Peacocks trail the Broncs 4-16 in the all-time series and have dropped the last five contest to their in-state rival.

The women's soccer team returns to Jaroschak Field for the next two games. First, on September 23 the team will play host to Niagara. The Peacocks have fallen in the previous seven meetings and trail the Purple Eagles 6-18 overall. Next, Saint Peter's will welcome Marist to Jersey City on September 27. The Red Foxes lead the Peacocks 17-4 all-time having won four straight against Saint Peter's.

A two-game conference road trip begins in Riverdale, New York at Manhattan on October 4 and concludes in Loudonville, New York at Siena on October 7. The Peacocks trail the Jaspers 3-23 and they trail the Saints 4-22-1 all-time.

The unit returns to Jersey City for an October 11 date with Fairfield. The Peacocks tied the Stags, 1-1 in last season's meeting at Fairfield. Overall, the Peacocks trail the Stags 0-24-2 all-time.

Saint Peter's will play their final two road matches of the season, starting in Buffalo, New York with Canisius on October 14. The Peacocks trail the Golden Griffins 5-20 all-time and have dropped the last two meetings after last defeating Canisius 3-1 in 2014. Saint Peter's will then play in the final road contest at Iona in New Rochelle, New York on October 18. The Peacocks are behind the Gaels in the all-time series 8-15-2 and have lost the last five contest.

The Peacocks conclude the 2017 campaign at home against defending MAAC champions and hOURglass Rival, Monmouth on October 21. The Hawks have won all 22 meetings with the Peacocks since the first meeting between the teams in 1994.

 "We have graduated very few, which means we retain the progress we have made and add to that a strong incoming class with a good balance of talent, work rate and experience," added Sherwood. "We are very optimistic about the possibilities of the upcoming season."

All 11 conference teams will participate in the 2017 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship, from October 28 to November 1. The tournament will take place in Lake Buena Vista, FL at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
