The Peacocks head to Hillside, New Jersey for a meeting with the NJIT Highlanders on Saturday, September 2 at 12pm. The contest will take place on The East Campus of Kean University.
The Peacocks and Highlanders have met annually since 2006. Saturday's matchup will be the 12th all-time contests between the in-state rivals. The Peacocks trail NJIT, 2-8-1 in the all-time series. NJIT is riding a seven-game win streak against the Peacocks, with the Peacocks last defeating the Highlanders back in 2009.
Last Time We Met
Last season, the Peacocks were defeated by NJIT in Newark, NJ. Despite the loss, starting goalkeeper, Taylor McLean made a career best, 18 saves in the contest.
NJIT Scouting Report
The Highlanders bring a 1-3 mark into the weekend contest. NJIT began the season 0-3, with losses to Manhattan, Lafayette, and UMass Lowell, before notching the first win against Marist on Wednesday. The Peacocks will be the third MAAC opponent for the Highlanders thus far this season, and is one of five total MAAC opponents for the team.
Saint Peter's will welcome Wagner on Wednesday, September 6 at 3pm. Then the Peacocks will close out the non-conference season on the road at Hampton (September 9) and at Sacred Heart (September 13).
Looking Back at 2016
Saint Peter's ended the 2016 season with a 1-13-2 overall record and a 0-9-1 record in the MAAC. The Peacocks earned a league point for the first time in over two years last season with its draw with Fairfield and the team took playoff qualifying Canisius to overtime on senior day. Saint Peter's also gave up 34 less goals in 2016 compared to 2015, cutting its average goals allowed per game from 4.64 in 2015 to 2.81 in 2016.
Looking Forward to 2017
The Peacocks only lost three seniors from the 2016 squad and the team returns 13 players from last year's roster. Returning starters include Taylor McLean, Alyssa Conanan, Brooke Trotta, Mia Greene, Olivia Nazzaro, Alexandria Couto, Aleena Cruz, Victoria Babcock, and Kelsey Nugent.
Head coach Melissa Sherwood added six new student-athletes to the 2017 team. Nazae Craw, Isabel Fernandez, Carlee Gonzalez, Rachel Ingram, Elizabeth Pacillo, and Victoria Scarratt joined the lineup for the fall.
About the Coach
