The Peacocks head south to Lake Buena Vista, Florida for the 2017 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship. The tournament will be held on Disney's World grounds at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from October 28 until November 1. The Peacocks open up the tournament in the first round against hOURglass Rival, Rider University on Saturday, October 28 at 11am. The matchup will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

 

Peacocks in the MAAC Championship
The Peacocks will be playing in the MAAC tournament for the 10th time since 1992. The Peacocks are 0-9 all-time in the tournament. The Peacocks faced Rider one time previously in the tournament, back in 2001.

 

History with the Broncs
The Peacocks and Broncs will meet for the 22nd time since Rider joined the conference in 1997. The Peacocks trail the Broncs 4-17 all-time and are 0-5 against Rider since the hOURglass inception in 2013. When the teams met this season, Rider came away with a 3-0 victory over the Peacocks.

 

Up Next

If the Peacocks defeat the Broncs, they will advance to the quarterfinal round on Sunday, October 29 and will face No. 3 Quinnipiac at 11am.

 

MAAC Player of the Week

Barbara Paiva earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the week of September 11 after amassing three goals and one assist for seven total points. Paiva's three goals and seven total points were more than any other MAAC player had on the week, leading to her first career weekly award.

 

Looking Back at 2016

Saint Peter's ended the 2016 season with a 1-13-2 overall record and a 0-9-1 record in the MAAC. The Peacocks earned a league point for the first time in over two years last season with its draw with Fairfield and the team took playoff qualifying Canisius to overtime on senior day. Saint Peter's also gave up 34 less goals in 2016 compared to 2015, cutting its average goals allowed per game from 4.64 in 2015 to 2.81 in 2016. 

 

Looking Forward to 2017
The Peacocks only lost three seniors from the 2016 squad and the team returns 13 players from last year's roster. Returning starters include Taylor McLean, Alyssa Conanan, Brooke Trotta, Mia Greene, Olivia Nazzaro, Alexandria Couto, Aleena Cruz, Victoria Babcock, and Kelsey Nugent.  

 

New Additions
Head coach Melissa Sherwood added six new student-athletes to the 2017 team. Nazae CrawIsabel FernandezCarlee GonzalezRachel IngramElizabeth Pacillo, and Victoria Scarratt joined the lineup for the fall.

 

About the Coach
Melissa Sherwood is in her second season as the women's soccer head coach at Saint Peter's in 2017.
