HEMPSTEAD, NY - The Saint Peter's University women's tennis team competed at the Hofstra Invitational, along with six other teams over the weekend.
Results - Freshman Marta Ortega was the only Peacock able to win as she beat sophomore teammate, Azuri Hughes, 8-0 in the "C" Singles Consolation Quarterfinals. Stephanie Falcon dropped a tough first set to Hodges of Wagner in the "C" Singles Round of 16, 7-5, 6-0. Aidah Muhammad was defeated by Marist's Brozovich, 6-1, 6-0 in the same draw. In the first collegiate match of her career, Ortega fell to Galloway of Marist 6-2, 6-1. Hughes lost to Gibson of Wagner, 6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 16, as well.
Coach Scolamieri on the performance of the weekend:
"Hopefully, the results will make each player realize what she has to practice and also what she has to change and practice in her game. It was an eye opening but disappointing performance in terms of how we played. It also has made me realize what I need to stress even more at our practices."
