JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's women's tennis suffered a home opening defeat at the racquets of LIU Brooklyn, 7-0, on Sunday. The loss drops their overall record to 0-5 on the season.
Doubles Results - Stephanie Falcon and Azuri Hughes fell at No. 1 to Anna Grigoryan and Ana Leonte. At No. 2, Aidah Muhammad and Marta Ortega lost to the same score line against Sasha Bollweg and Jessica Brzozowska. Rachel Valentine and Jennifer Guilherme were defeated at No. 3, 6-0, to Jennifer Gogova and Malin Leysen.
Singles Results - Falcon was dropped by Leysen at the top singles position, 6-0, 6-1. Hughes lost to Bollweg, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2. No. 3, Muhammad, No. 4, Ortega, No. 5, Valentine, and No. 6, Guilherme all lost by similar scorelines, 6-0, 6-0, to Gogova, Brzozowska, Clarence Krug, and Grigoryan, respectively.
Coach Scolamieri - "I thought that Azuri, Aidah, and Rachel played better than they have in awhile and that is especially difficult to do when you are so overmatched and even more so when you are playing against the team that went to the NCAA last year."
Up Next - The women's team stays home for a match against Providence College on Saturday, February 3. First serve is set for 2pm in the Yanitelli Recreational Life Center.
