JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University women's tennis team fell to Providence College, 7-0, at home on Saturday, February 3. The loss keeps the team winless on the season at 0-6 overall with a 0-2 MAAC record. Providence improved to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the Big East.
Doubles Results - The Peacocks had to play one player short so they began doubles and singles one match down. Stephanie Falcon and Azuri Hughes lost 6-0 at No. 1 against Risa Takenaka and Aidan Epstein. Marta Ortega and Rachel Valentine grabbed a game but ultimately fell at No. 2, 6-1, to Sera Satkowski and Grace Goyette. No. 3 was defaulted by Saint Peter's.
Singles Results - The women's tennis team began singles play down 2-0 because they lost the doubles point and defaulted No. 6 singles. Falcon was defeated by Takenaka, 6-2, 6-0, at the top position. Hughes fought hard after being down a set but ultimately fell 6-1, 4-6, - at No. 2 against Katie Marvin. Ortega lost 6-0, 6-2 against Lauryn Jacobs at No. 3. Valentine fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 against Epstein. Jennifer Guilherme grabbed a game but fell 6-0, 6-1 to Emily Collins at No. 5.
Up Next - The Saint Peter's women's tennis team remains home for their first MAAC match of 2018 against the Red Foxes of Marist College on Friday, February 9. First serve is set to be hit at 2:15pm in the Yanitelli Recreational Life Center Bubble.
