Women's Tennis Drops MAAC Contest to Marist

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's women's tennis team began their 2018 conference slate with a setback to MAAC foe Marist, 7-0, keeping the squad off the win column this season.


Doubles Results - The Peacocks fell behind early as only four players were able to suit up for the match, forcing them to win the only two doubles matches played if they wanted to win the doubles tandem point. Stephanie Falcon and Azuri Hughes teamed up against Julia Gabay and Sam Galu at the top spot. Marta Ortega and Jennifer Guilherme played Sophia Moeller and Amy Galloway at No. 2. Both teams lost by the same scoreline, 6-0. Claire Schmitz and Elizabeth Brozovich won by default at No. 3.


Singles Results - Saint Peter's entered singles matches down 3-0, after losing the tandem point and defaulting at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Galu and Galloway won by default at the respective positions for Marist. Falcon, playing at No. 1 the whole season, played Gabay and was defeated by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Hughes faced off with Schmitz at No. 2 but faltered 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3, Ortega and Moeller played with the Red Fox winning 6-0, 6-1. Guilherme, playing in her highest position of the season, hit the court against Galu and fell 6-0, 6-0.


Up Next - The women's tennis team will return to the courts tomorrow, February 10, for a noon match against the Greyhounds of Loyola (MD).
