BROOKLYN, NY - Saint Peter's women's volleyball team fell to St. Francis Brooklyn 3-0 (22-25, 21-25,17-25) Friday in the Genovsi Center.
"Today was a tight played game which we led in the first to sets with a chance to win them," said head coach Amable Martinez. "We have to do a better job in executing towards the end of the sets."
Leaders for the Terriers were Sydney Benson with seven kills, Mireya Ramirez with 13 digs, and Gabriella Nobrega with 18 assists.
The Peacocks got off to a great start as they tied early with the Terriers at 9-9. A double play by Caitlinn Williams and Danielle Lopez and an error on St. Francis put them in the lead at 12-10. The Peacocks eventually went on to lead the Terriers 16-12 until the Terrier went on a five point run and eventually tied the score at 17. The teams went point for point and the Peacocks were able to take the lead again at, 20-19. St. Francis came back to tie the set, 22-22 before stealing the win, 25-22.
In the second set the Peacocks led the Terriers early, 8-4. St. Francis was able to catch up to the Peacocks as the game went on trailing only two points behind at 12-10. Saint Peter's then broke into a six-point run, leading 18-10 including a kill from Danielle Lopez and McGinnis and an ace by Viles. The Terriers fought to cut the deficit adding five points to the board, trailing the Peacocks 18-15. The Peacocks scored one more point leading the Terriers 19-15 just before St. Francis closed in on Saint Peter's falling short one point, 20-19. Unfortunately the Peacocks scored one more point before the Terriers won the set 25-21.
In the final set, the Peacocks trailed the Terriers early at 8-11. The Terriers then sealed a six point lead as they led the Peacocks 15-8. The Peacocks fought to cut the deficit but eventually trailed the Terriers, 13-20. St. Francis Brooklyn held Saint Peter's to four more points as they pulled away to win the set 25-17.
The Peacocks will wrap up the tournament on Saturday, September 2 as they face UMES at 11:30am and UMASS at 7pm.
