HAMDEN, CT - The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team dropped a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest to Quinnipiac, 3-0 (15-27, 15-25, 14-25) Saturday in the Alumni Hall.
"We just had a breakdown in our defense which we had a hard time recovering from," said head coach Amable Martinez. "We are looking to bounce back tomorrow."
Leaders for the Bobcats were Jen Coffee with 13 kills. Natalie Alechko led with 12 digs and Maria Pansari added 37 assists and 14 digs.
In the first set, the Peacocks and the Bobcats tied early at 4-4. Quinnipiac later went on to take the lead over Saint Peter's at 9-8. A double-play by Viles put the Peacocks back in the lead, 10-9 as she added a kill followed by an ace. The next couple of series, the Peacocks went point for point until they evened the score at 15-15. The Bobcats then pulled away to win the set 25-15.
The Peacocks got off to a good start in set two, as they led the Bobcats 3-0. Quinnipiac was able to close in on the Peacocks and eventually tied Saint Peter's 5-5. Saint Peter's later trailed the Bobcats 5-9. The Peacocks kept playing and caught up to the Bobcats falling behind just two points, 9-11. Saint Peter's scored two more points before the Bobcats gained eight points to lead 11-23. Quinnipiac held the Peacocks to four more points and won the set 25-15.
In the Final set the Peacocks trailed the Bobcats early 6-13. A few plays later Quinnipiac led by one point at 14-6. Saint Peter's added three points trailing the Bobcats 9-14. The Bobcats increased their five point lead from 15-10 to 19-10. The Peacocks scored four more points before the Bobcats won the set 25-14.
