Volleyball Drops Match to NJIT

JERSEY CITY, NJ -  The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team dropped to a non-conference contest against NJIT, 3-0 (18-25, 23-25, 14-25) Wednesday night in the Yanitelli Center.

"We struggled earning any points late in the first two sets tonight," said head coach Amable Martinez. "On a positive note it was one of our better overall offensive performances of the season."

Alexus Sharp led the Peacocks with seven kills. Danielle lopez followed with five kills and Caroline Ruiz added 14 assists.

Leaders for the Highlanders were Tess Albyn with 11 kills, Mikalah Hughes had 11 kills and Liz Benson added 28 assists.

In the first set, the Peacocks trailed the Highlanders early at 7-5.The Peacocks then gained three points jumping to the lead at 8-7. Saint Peter's eventually tied the Highlanders four times before evening the score at 15-15. The Peacocks added three more points and the Highlanders won the set 25-18.

In the second set, The Peacocks trailed the Highlanders 5-7 before scoring four straight points to lead 9-7. The Peacocks continued to lead the Highlanders by two at 12-10. A kill by Sharp and two errors on NJIT increased the Peacocks lead to 15-10. Each team added two points and the Peacocks led the highlanders 18-13. The Peacocks went point for point as NJIT fell behind 16-21 before adding four points to trailing by one point at 20-21. The Peacocks added two more points and the Highlanders won the set 25-23.

In the final set, the Peacocks were off to a slow start as the Highlanders led 13-5. The Peacocks were able to gained three point to add to their score of 8-13. NJIT continued to lead by five points at 16-11 before increasing their lead to 20-11. The Peacocks added three more points before the Highlanders won 25-14.

Up next the Peacocks will host hOURglass rival, Rider on Saturday, September 30 at 3pm.
