JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team dropped a contest against New Jersey rival, Rider University 3-0 (20-25, 17-25, 13-25) Saturday afternoon in the Yanitelli Center.
"We played well defensively but needed more from our offense," said head coach Amable Martinez.
Leaders for the Broncs were Hailey Riede with 13 kills, Rachelle Runyon added the team's high of 13 digs and Veronica Koval added 36 assists.
The Peacocks started off the first set with high energy as they battle the Broncs falling behind just three points at, 7-10. The Broncs then increased their lead, scoring eight points in a row leading 18-7. Rider added three points to their score and the Peacocks added two points leaving the score at 21-9. Saint Peter's kept playing hard and held the Broncs at 21 as they gained five points to bring the deficit under 10 at 15-21. Rider then held the Peacocks to only five points as they went on to win the set 25-20.
In the second set, the Peacocks led the Broncs 7-4 early on. The Broncs were able to cut the deficit and later tied the score at 8-8 and at 10-10. Rider then gained six points on the Peacocks taking a 16-10 edge. The Peacocks were unable to catch the Broncs and ended up trailing at 11-20. The Peacocks held the Broncs 21 as they added three points to the board trailing, 14-20. The Peacocks scored three more points before the Broncs won the set 25-17.
In the final set, the Peacocks were off to a slow start as the Broncs led them 14-7. Both teams added three points each with the Broncs leading 17-10. The Peacocks added three more point to their score and Rider won the set 25-13.
Up next the Peacocks will host the Marist Red Foxes, on Saturday, October 7 at 1pm in the Yanitelli Center.
