Volleyball Drops MAAC Contest to Marist

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team dropped a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference  (MAAC) contest to Marist, 3-0, on Saturday (16-25,16-25, 23-25).

Sophomore, Danielle Lopez, led the Peacocks with six kills. Kali Viles followed with five kills and Karla Seda led the team with nine digs.

Leading the Red Foxes were Kelsey Ediger with eight kills, Nikki DeSerpa with six kills and eight digs, and Taylor Van Der Biezen led the team with 24 assists.

In the first set, the Red Foxes led the Peacocks early at 10-4. Saint Peters was able to hold the Red Foxes to 10 as they cut the deficit to 8-10. The Peacocks continued to play hard, falling shy one point at 11-12. The Red Foxes then pulled away, taking a 16-11 lead. The Peacocks posted five more points and Marist won the set 25-16.

The Peacocks were off to a slow start in the second set as they trailed the Red Foxes 5-11 early. Saint Peter's then got within three points, trailing Marist at 8-11. Marist eventually increased their lead to 13-21, before winning the set at 25-16.

In the final set, the Peacocks picked up the energy as they led the Red Foxes 8-3. Marist was able to cut the deficit as they trailed by two points at 6-8. The Peacocks continued to lead as they added two points taking a 10-6 edge. Marist posted one more point before the Peacocks increased the lead to 13-9. Marist eventually tied the match at 16-16, before taking a 20-17 lead. Marist lead then increased to 24-19. The Peacocks held the Red Foxes to 24 as they added four points to make the score 23-24. Before the Peacocks could complete the comeback, Marist closed out the set with a 25-23 victory.

The Peacocks will return to action on Sunday on October 8, when they face the Siena Saints in the Yanitelli Center at 1pm.
