JERSEY CITY - Saint Peter's women's volleyball drop it's match to Siena 3-2 (26-24, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18, 15-11) on Sunday afternoon. Junior, Kali Viles led the team with 16 kills.
Kenyale McGinnis followed Viles with 10 kills, Alexus Sharp and Danielle Lopez added eight kills each while Natalia Carbonell added six kills. Carolina Ruiz led the Peacocks with 30 assists and Imani Spicer added 14 assists. Defensively, Yaidelis Lopez led with14 digs and Karla Seda added 13 digs.
Leaders for the Saints were Antonija Ivanovic with 21 kills and 12 digs, Dakota Jackson with 15 kills and Karli Rodriguez with 10 kills. Jessica Elbin added 53 assists.
In the first set, the Peacocks came out with high energy as they even the score three times before taking the lead at 10-9. The Peacocks held the Saints to nine as they gained five consecutive points at 15-9. The Saints added two points to their score and Saint Peter's added four points leaving the score at 19-13. The Saints were able to cut the deficit as they fell behind just one point to the Peacocks at 18-19. The Peacocks would take a two point advantage, leading at 22-20 and the Saints added two points to even the score at 22. The teams went point for point as they tied at 23 and 24. Then, Saint Peters was able to win the set 26-24.
Like the first set the Peacocks took the lead early at 8-5. The Saints added two more points falling behind one point at 7-8. The Peacocks lead grew to 13-8 with three errors on Siena and a kill by Sharp, Viles and McGinnis forcing the Saints into a timeout. Siena added two points then Viles added a kill followed by an ace by McGinnis to lead the Saints 15-10. The Peacocks continued with a strong lead as they led by six points at 18-12. The Peacocks held the Saints to four more points and won the set 25-15.
In the third set, the Peacocks led the Saints by one point at 5-4. The Saints then tied the score at 5-5 and held the Peacocks to one point before jumping to a lead of 9-6. Siena then increased their lead as they led the Peacocks 14-10. An error on Siena and a kill by Viles put the Peacocks behind by two points again at 12-14. The Saints went on to the lead the Peacocks by four at 21-17. The Peacocks then added three more points trailing the Saints 20-21, but the Peacocks only scored two more points before Siena won the set 25-22.
A kill by Sharp propelled a five point stretch putting the Peacocks back in the lead at 12-9. The Saints then added two points to fall behind one point at 11-12. The Peacocks gained one point before Siena added four points leading the Peacocks 15-13. The Saints eventually led the Peacocks 19-15 and the Peacocks closed in on Siena after adding three points to the score, making it 18-19. Siena held he the Peacocks to 18 as they went on to win the set 25-18.
In the final set, the Peacocks trailed the Saints by two pints at 7-5. The Peacocks added one pint and the Saints gained five points to lead 13-6. A kill by McGinnis and an error on Siena added two point to the Peacocks score trailing the Saints 8-12. The Peacocks added three more points and the Saints won the set 15-11.
Saint Peter will return to action on Saturday, October 14 as they travel to Riverdale, NY to play Manhattan College. The team will then face MAAC foe, Iona the following day on the 15.
