RIVERDALE, NY - The Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team dropped a conference match to Manhattan 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 26-24) Saturday afternoon, in the Draddy Gymnasium. Alexus Sharp and Caitlinn Williams led the Peacocks posting six kills each.
Leaders for Manhattan were Mary Donnelly with 11 kills, Zoe Lindsey and Sandra Lozanova with nine kills each and Alyssa Rehrer with 17 digs.
In the first set, The Peacocks trailed the Jaspers early at 5-9. The Peacocks then added two points to fall behind only three points at 7-10 but Manhattan used a 5-1 run to extend the lead over the Peacocks at 15-8. A few plays later the Peacocks were unable to cut the deficit as the Jaspers lead grew 20-12. The Peacocks scored three more points and the Jaspers went on to win the set 25-15.
The Peacocks trailed the Jaspers at 4-10 in the early goings of set two. Saint Peter's scored another point before Manhattan gained three points to lead 13-5. The Peacocks were able to hold the Jaspers at 13 as they cut the deficit to 8-13. Eventually the Peacocks scored four straight points trailing, the Jaspers 15-19. The Jaspers maintained the lead, closing out the set 25-19.
In the final set, the Peacocks tied the Jaspers at 13, 14, 16 and 17. Manhattan eventually took the lead over the Peacocks at 19-18 but the Peacocks came back to score four unanswered points, leading 22-19. The Peacocks continued to lead the Jaspers the next two plays at 23-21. The Jaspers then added two points to even the score at 23. Saint Peter's posted one more point and Manhattan went on to win the set 26-24.
The Peacocks will face Iona on Sunday at 1pm in New Rochelle, NY at the Hynes Athletic Center.
