Women's Volleyball Suffers Defeat at Niagara

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY - The Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team dropped a conference match to Niagara 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-19) Sunday afternoon.

Alexus Sharp led the Peacocks posting 12 kills and two blocks for a total of 14 points. Kali Viles and Natalia Carbonell Torres followed adding five kills each, Karla Seda led defensively with 10 digs.

Leaders for Niagara were Nicole Leitch with 10 kills, Grace Hetterscheidt and Jaycie Roberts followed with nine kills each. Defensively Sofia Lopez Acosta added the team's high of 24 digs.

In the first set, the Peacocks got off to a rough start a they trailed the Purple Eagles 5-13. Saint Peter's added three points before Niagara increased their lead to 18-8. The Peacocks fought to catch up to the Purple Eagles as they went on a 6-3 run trailing 14-21. The Peacocks added three more points to their score and Niagara won the set 25-17.

In set two, the Peacocks picked up the pace as they trailed Niagara by only three points midway through the set at 9-12. The Peacocks stayed within three points as Niagara led 16-13. The Purple Eagles held the Peacocks to three more points and won the set 25-16.

The Peacocks jumped out to an early four point lead in the final set at 7-3. The Purple Eagles came back within one point at 7-6. Saint Peter's continued to lead holding the Purple Eagles to two points as they led extended their lead to 11-8. Niagara scored seven unanswered points taking the lead at 15-11. The Purple Eagles eventually led the Peacocks by five points at 20-15. Saint Peter's posted four more points and Niagara won the set 25-19.

The Peacocks will head to Newark to face non-conference foe, NJIT on Tuesday,October 24th. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm.
