JERSEY CITY - Saint Peter's women's volleyball dropped a conference matchup to Manhattan 3-1 (16-25, 15-25, 25-14, 18-25) Wednesday night in the Yanitelli Center. Alexus Sharp led the Peacocks with her first double-double of the season, posting 15 kills and 19 digs.
Sandra Lozanova led the Jaspers with 15 kills, Meagan Miller followed with 12 and Mary Donnelly added 10 kills. Zoe Lindsey posted 38 assists while Alyssa Rehrer led defensively with 29 digs.
"We didn't come out to well the first two sets," said head coach Amable Martinez. "Our energy picked up in third set and Imani gave us a nice boost and it was probably the best hitting set all year. In the fourth set we allowed them to get momentum and we just have to get over the hump."
In the first set, the Peacocks fell behind the Jaspers 16-7. A kill from Torres, an ace from Karla Seda and an error on the Jaspers added three points to the Peacocks score as they trailed 16-10. Manhattan continued to lead holding the Peacocks to six more points and won the set 25-16.
The Peacocks trailed the Jaspers 11-5 in the beginning of the second set. The Peacocks went on a 6-2 run cutting the deficit to 13-11 with two kills from Torres and Sharp and two errors on Manhattan. Saint Peter's fought to catch the Jaspers scoring four more points before dropping the set 25-15.
After the break, the Peacocks came out on fire as they jumped out to a six point lead of 7-1. Manhattan added three points to their score trailing the Peacocks 7-3. Saint Peter's went on a 4-1 run with a kill from Torres, Sharp and Spicer leading the Jaspers 11-4. Eventually the Peacocks led by 10 at 16-6 and at then again at 20-10. The Peacocks held the Jaspers to four more points and went on to win the set 25-14.
The intensity was high at the start of the fourth set as the game tied at four. Manhattan jumped into the lead adding two points to their score at 6-4. The Peacocks then posted two points but the Jaspers broke away into a four point run leading Saint Peter's 11-6. The Peacocks had a tough time closing in on the Jaspers as they fell behind 17-10. A few plays later, Manhattan led the Peacocks 21-14. The Peacocks continued to play hard but were unable to overcome the deficit and Manhattan won the set 25-18.
The Peacocks will host Fairfield on Saturday, November 4th at 1pm.
