Cross Country Competes at THE MAACs



When: Saturday, Oct. 28th

Where: Holmdel Park, Holmdel, NJ

JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's men's and women's cross country will compete in the  Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships this Saturday, Oct. 28 at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, NJ. The women's 6K race will begin at 11am and the Men's 8K race will follow at 12pm.

Monmouth will be co-hosting the championships. The field includes 11 MAAC teams; Canisius , Fairfield, Iona, Manhattan, Marist, Monmouth, Niagara, Quinnipiac, Rider and Siena.

Last year, Georgie Nicholes led the women in the 6K run with a finishing time of  24:56.61 and Jermaine Lascelles led the men in the 8K run posting a time of 30:20.60. As a team, the women finished with a total time of 2:19:29.12 with an average time of 27:53.83. The men posted a total time of 2:36:29.68 and an average time of 31:17.94.

About the Coach

Phyllis Anderson taken on the role as head coach of the Saint Peter's cross country and track and field team. Anderson has guided multiple MAAC individual champions in 2015-16 at the league's indoor and outdoor track and field championships. She has built A. Philip Randolph High School track and field program into a powerhouse leading them to nearly 20 consecutive Manhattan borough championships along with multiple indoor and outdoor New York City titles. Anderson has coached multiple Olympians, including gold medalist Natasha Hastings (Team USA 2008) and Barbara Selkridge (Antigua, 1988). Anderson holds a bachelor's degree from Queens College (NY) and a master's degree from City College of New York.


Joining the team is assistant coach, Rudy Thompson. Recently he coached at George Washington High School since 2012. He specializes in sprints, distance, along with field events, discus, pole vault, and shot put. Thompson earned a bachelor's degree from North Carolina A&T and a master's degree from Brooklyn College. In addition, he has also completed an advanced certificate at Brooklyn college and course work towards a masters at Touro College.
