EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Saint Peter's College baseball team swept the 2009 New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Rookie of the Year Awards for the first time in school history.
Rookie second baseman Justyn Carter (Mount Laurel, NJ) was named the 2009 NJCBA Rookie Player of the Year. Carter started all 54 games for the Peacocks this season, breaking the single season all-time record. Batting leadoff, he hit .316 and recorded a .459 on-base percentage and .447 slugging percentage. Of his 60 hits, 16 were for extra bases (10 doubles, 3 triples, 3 home runs). He also stole 31 bases, the second highest season total in Saint Peter's history. In the field, his 158 assists were the second highest total all-time, contributing to Saint Peter's 62 double plays, the 12th highest total in NCAA Division I this season. In addition, the Peacocks' 1.15 double plays per game average was the 16th highest average nationwide. He was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on April 20th, one of three Peacocks to be so honored this season.
Rookie right-handed pitcher Dom Macaluso (Jefferson, NJ) was named the 2009 NJCBA Rookie Pitcher of the Year. His five victories tied the third highest season total in team history, while his 15 starts and 86-2/3 innings pitched set all-time season high marks. Macaluso pitched a stretch of 14 innings this year without giving up an earned run, and during the span gave up only one extra base hit.
In addition to Carter and Macaluso, junior shortstop Conor Mullee (Ashburn, VA) was named to the 2009 All-NJCBA First Team. Mullee set the all-time assist record for the Peacocks this year with 165, and tied for the team lead with six home runs.
Freshman Brian Koster (Franklin Park, NJ) was named the utility player to the 2009 All-NJCBA Second Team. Koster batted .311 and knocked in 34 runs - second on the team behind Mullee. He split time at both first base and third base this season, combining for a .985 fielding percentage. Koster was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on March 10th.
Freshman right-handed pitcher Ethan Jackson (Howell, NJ) was named to the 2009 All-NJCBA Rookie Team. Jackson threw three complete games, and struck out 41 batters in 66-2/3 innings pitched this season. He was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on March 30th.
