Peahens Fall 66-52 to Pride, Despite Judson's Game-High 21 Points

Jersey City, NJ- The Saint Peter's College women's basketball team fell 66-52 to the Hofstra Pride Saturday afternoon. Saint Peter's has now dropped its last three contests against Hofstra, after winning the first five match-ups, dating back to the 1977-78 season. With the loss, the Peahens fall to 0-8, while Hofstra improves to 7-2.

 
Hofstra got off to a fast start in the first half, outscoring the Peahens by a 7-2 margin. Both teams proceeded to exchange baskets until the Pride put together another run, this time 8-0, to put them ahead 18-6 with 10:28 left in the first half. Hofstra led by as many as 19 points in the frame, (30-11), as they held Saint Peter's to a 22.6% field goal percentage. 

Although Hofstra scored the first field goal of the second half, the Peahens put together a 9-0 run to cut the visiting team's lead to single digits (8 points), for the first time since the 6:12 minute mark in the first stanza. Jynae Judson led Saint Peter's during the stretch, scoring the first seven consecutive points, while Aziza May added a two-pointer to make the score 36-28.

Following a three minute scoring drought for both sides, the Pride recreated separation and went ahead 53-34, with the Peahens going 1-5 from the floor and committing three turnovers. Shante Evans led Hofstra with seven points during the run, en route to establishing a 19-point Pride advantage. Saint Peter's would be unable to get any closer than 12 points in the closing minutes of the game.

Jynae Judson led all scorers with 21 points, her fourth consecutive game finishing in double-figures, while adding 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Aziza May contributed 15 points (6-8 from the free throw line), 7 assists, 2 blocks and 3 steals.

For the Pride, Shante Evans had 17 points and 15 rebounds while Nicole Capurso and Deven Green had 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

Saint Peter's shot 31.3% in the game (23.1% 3PT), while the Pride finished shooting 37.3% (22.2% 3PT). Hofstra also out-rebounded the Peahens 55-28, but committed 28 turnovers to SPC's 21.

The Peahens return to action after an eight-day break, on Thursday, December 29th, as they welcome the University of Florida, University of Dayton and Binghamton University to the Yanitelli Center for the annual Holiday Classic. The first game of the tournament, USF vs. Dayton, tips at 5pm.
