LOGAN, UT – The Utah State University Aggies (7-5) used a 26-5 first half run to open up a 25-point lead and never looked back in a 72-47 win over the Saint Peter's College Peacocks (2-9). Markese Tucker led Saint Peter's with 12 points all the second half in his first action as a Peacock.
Utah State won the tip and scored the first four points of the half. The Peacocks then trailed 6-4 at the 16:52 mark, but went the next 5:06 without scoring, while the Aggies scored 14 straight to take a 20-4 lead. Utah State continued to open up their advantage and led 34-9 with 5:59 to play in the first half. In all the run was 26-5 and took over 10 minutes off the clock.
Saint Peter's got to within 22 points at 36-14, but the Aggies scored five straight got up 41-14. Lamin Fulton hit a three-pointer with 1:16 to play and that was the last scoring of the half as the Peacocks went into the break trailing 41-17.
Chris Prescott scored eight points to lead Saint Peter's. Morgan Grim scored eight points to lead Utah State. The Aggies shot 47% from the field and held the Peacocks to 19%. Saint Peter's was outrebounded 22-16 and committed 10 turnovers to the Aggies seven. Utah State won the paint battle 14-4 and the points off turnovers battle 13-3
Utah State scored the first four points of the second half, but Saint Peter's then scored seven straight to make the score 45-24. The Peacocks tried to get back into the game, but could never get any closer then that 21-point deficit. The Aggies led by as many as 28 points early in the second half.
Tucker was 6-10 from the field. Prescott added eight points, while Yvon Raymond scored seven. Morgan Grim scored 17 to lead the Aggies. Utah State shot 48% from the field and held the Peacocks to 32%. The Aggies won the board battle 38-31 and forced 14 turnovers, while committing 12.
Saint Peter's will face UT-Arlington tomorrow at 7:30pm EST in their final game at the Athletes in Action Classic.
