The Saint Peter's College women's basketball team dropped a 70-63 decision to the Binghamton University Bearcats. Lauren Morris finished with a team-high 15 points, while Khadijah Young and Jynae Judson also finished in double-figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Binghamton's Andrea Holmes recorded a game-high 26 points. The Peahens are now 0-10 and the Bearcats improve to 6-6.
The game got off to a slow start, with each team recording just one field goal a piece in the opening five and a half minutes. A three-pointer by Binghamton's Andrea Holmes in the fifteenth minute gave the Bearcats their first lead of the first half at 5-2.
Neither team was able to maintain a lead for an extended period of time, with six lead changes and two tied scores occurring in the first 13 minutes of the half. Binghamton soon rallied, and put together a 12-0 run to break open the game at 28-19.
The Peahens went 0-3 during the stretch and committed 8 of their 15 first half turnovers. DeWolfe's squad was held without a basket for over six minutes, until Jynae Judson scored off a fast break layup on the assists from Aziza May (28-21). Binghamton scored their final two points of the first stanza off made free throws from Elofson to give the Bearcats a 30-21 advantage going into half-time.
Following the intermission, Aziza May scored the first basket of the half- a 15 foot jumper from the foul line to bring the Peahens within seven at 30-23. Saint Peter's managed to cut the Bearcat's lead to three at 36-33, following an 8-2 run that saw two treys from Jynae Judson and Kristal Edwards (both assisted by May) and a two-pointer from Lauren Morris.
Despite several mini-runs by the Bearcats, Saint Peter's would get within three points on several occasions, yet never getting any closer. The Peahens did cut Binghamton's advantage to two points at 63-61 with 30 seconds left, however the visiting team went 7-8 from the charity stripe to secure a 70-63 victory.
Saint Peter's finished with season highs in field goal percentage (46.9%) and three-point field goal percentage (36.4%). The Peahens had three players in double-figures, Morris (15 points), Young (12 points) and Judson (11 points). Aziza May finished with team-highs in both rebounds (6) and assists (6).
The Peahens will face-off against the University of South Florida Bulls in the Consolation Game of the tournament at 5pm tomorrow. The Championship game will tipoff at 7:30 pm, and will feature the University of Dayton Flyers and the Binghamton Bearcats.
