Box Score The Peahens were defeated by the University of Akron 87-50 on Saturday evening. Jynae Judson led the team with 15 points in her first game back after serving a four-game suspension. With the loss, the Peahens fall to 0-5, while the Zips improve to 5-3.
Akron started off the first half with a 6-0 run, fueled by 4 points from Rachel Tecca. Saint Peter's would respond with their own 6-0 run to tie up the game, after Aziza May came up with a steal and scored on a pull up jump-shot on the fast break (15:19).
Over the following seven minutes, the Zips put together a 17-2 run to go ahead 23-10 just under the eight minute mark. During the stretch, Akron's Rachel Tecca and Taylor Ruper combined for 11 points, while the Peahens committed 6 turnovers and went 1-5 from the field.
The Zips attained their highest lead of the first half (15 points) with under a minute left, when Carly Young grabbed the rebound off her own missed free throw and layed it in.
Saint Peter's was unable to get any closer than fifteen in the second frame, as they were outscored 53-30.
The Peahens shot 30.4% from the field and 20% from three-point range, while the Zips shot 52.6% from the floor and an impressive 42.9% from beyond the arc. The game featured two tied scores and two lead changes, both occurring in the first half.
Jynae Judson led the Peahens with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Jesika Holmes followed up her double-double performance with 9 points and 4 rebounds while Aziza May added 7 points. Freshman Katrina Felder contributed a career-high 6 points and 6 rebounds in just 11 minutes of action.
Akron's Rachel Tecca finished with a game-high 25 points, making 11 of her 14 field goal attempts. Sina King and Carly Young added 13 and 12 points respectively.
Saint Peter's will return to action Thursday, December 8th as they host Sacred Heart. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm in the Yanitelli Center.
